After Your ETA Is Approved

Once your UK Electronic Travel Authorisation is approved, here is what it covers, how long it lasts, and the rules to keep in mind for future visits to the United Kingdom.
What your approved ETA means
Linked to your passport
Your approved ETA is stored electronically and linked to the passport you applied with. There is no sticker or document to print, though you may keep your confirmation email for your records.
Valid for around two years
An approved ETA is generally valid for two years, or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. You do not need to reapply for each trip during that period.
Multiple visits allowed
Within its validity, your ETA allows multiple visits to the UK, with each stay lasting up to six months for permitted purposes such as tourism, business, or visiting family.
Carry the right passport
Always travel with the same passport your ETA is linked to. Border systems check your ETA against that passport when you arrive.

When to apply again
You will need a new UK ETA when any of the following happens:
- Your current ETA has expired
- Your passport has expired or been replaced
- Your personal details have changed in a way that affects your travel document
An expired ETA has no bearing on your record. The new application follows the same process as a first application.
